FAQ
How often should I feed my dog?
Most adult dogs eat two meals a day; puppies need three or four smaller meals. Use the food label as a starting point and adjust to keep a healthy body shape.
Can cats live happily indoors?
Yes, with enough play, climbing spaces, scratching posts and window views. Many welfare groups support indoor living or safe outdoor enclosures, especially near busy roads.
Are there hypoallergenic dogs or cats?
No breed is completely allergy free. Low-shedding breeds like poodles may suit some people with allergies, but reactions vary, so spend time with the breed first.
How often should I bathe my dog?
Only when needed for most dogs, often every one to three months, using a dog shampoo. Some breeds and skin conditions need a different routine.
How do I trim nails safely?
Trim a little at a time and avoid the pink quick. If you are unsure, ask your vet or groomer to show you.
Can a goldfish live in a bowl?
It is not recommended. Goldfish grow large and produce lots of waste, so they need a big filtered tank or pond.
Do rabbits and guinea pigs need a friend?
Yes. Both are social, and welfare groups recommend keeping them with a compatible companion of their own kind.
Why does my cat bring me presents?
Hunting is natural behaviour. Play sessions with wand toys can satisfy that instinct.
What is the best age to adopt?
Puppies and kittens usually go home at around eight weeks or older. Adult pets are great too: their personality is already known.
Which human foods are dangerous?
Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions, garlic, xylitol and, for cats, lilies are some of the big ones. See our full guide.
